McCann keeps the lights on in Hillingdon

2 days McCann has been awarded the street lighting term service contract for the London Borough of Hillingdon, with a total value of up to £18 million.

McCann, first appointed as the borough鈥檚 maintenance contractor in 2016, has been reappointed for an initial term of seven years, with the option to extend to twelve years. The contract covers the maintenance of approximately 25,000 lighting assets across the borough, including 5,130 illuminated signs, bollards, and centre island posts; 4,170 non-illuminated signs and solar or reflective bollards; and 240 feeder pillars.

The contract encompasses the delivery of a full street lighting term service, including both planned and reactive works. This includes capital investment activities such as column replacement, structural testing, and painting, alongside routine and non-routine maintenance of street lighting assets, traffic signs, and associated street furniture.

McCann will also provide inspection, cleaning, testing, and repair services, manage fault reporting, undertake night scouting, and deliver a 24-hour emergency response service. Additional responsibilities include cyclical electrical testing and the delivery of wider highway-related works, ensuring all services are carried out safely, efficiently, and in compliance with statutory requirements and council performance standards.

James McDaid, head of local authority business at McCann, said: 鈥淭his is a fantastic re-win for McCann, demonstrating the success of our service delivery for Hillingdon and its residents and stakeholders since 2016. Our strategy of maintaining a customer-focused approach, while delivering best value and leaving a strong social value legacy, has enabled us to secure this prestigious contract once again.鈥

Cllr Steve Tuckwell, Hillingdon Council cabinet member for planning, housing and growth, said: 鈥淲e鈥檙e pleased to be working with J McCann & Co Limited on the maintenance contract for the borough鈥檚 street lighting. They align well with the council鈥檚 strategic ambitions and have a good track record of delivering in accordance with our aim of ensuring we put residents first.
