The Mason family were first established in 1883 in the wholesale and retail fruit and vegetable business.

When my Father Geoff returned to Lincoln after the war he joined my Grandfather Arthur and my Great Uncles Gordon and Sid in the business. After the senior members of the family retired Geoff expanded the company and during the 1960’s opened additional shops in and around Lincoln.

In 1968 I joined my Father and concentrated mainly on the wholesale side of the business. It soon became obvious to me that we were not using the vehicles to their full potential, as many of the lorries were traveling from Lincoln empty to collect from the principal markets and growers around the country.

By writing to a number of local companies and offering competitive rates, the haulage business was born. Two of the first customers were Ruston Gas Turbines Ltd who are now a part of the Siemens Group and Brayford Plastics Ltd. More than 30 years on and both remain as premier clients.

With the demise of the small retailer due to the pressure exerted on them by the supermarkets (and my preference for trucks over turnips) I decided in the early 1990’s to sell out of the fruit business and concentrate solely on transport.
